Two formulas are required for spectroscopy.

$c = \lambda v$
  * $c = 3 \times 10^8 \text{ m/s}$
  * $\lambda = \text{ wavelength (m)}$
  * $v = \text{ frequency(s^-1 or Hz)}$

$E = hv$
  * $E = \text{ Energy per Quantum (J)}$((quantums here are photons))
  * $h = 6.63 \times 10^-34 \text{ Js}$((planck's constant))
  * $v = \text{ frequency(s^-1 or Hz)}$
